Our last full day in Bandon was a nice and mellow one.
We had coffee with an old friend from Oregon Tech, Jenny Carroll Silva, and Michael Andersch made a welcomed appearance, taking time out of his afternoon of fishing to say hello and graciously replenish our beef jerky supply with his soon-to-be-famous BnD Custom Meats out of Roseburg.
Mike and I used to walk to elementary school together and I haven’t seen him in a few decades. The fact that he and Jenny made such an effort to say hello is really something special. I’m not sure why they made the time, but I’m so glad they did.
We checked out the Coquille lighthouse, walked the jetty, and marveled at all the driftwood on the beach before heading back to the compound for a BBQ with Papa Tom Fogarty and the fam.
The remainder of our final Bandon evening was consumed with playing the card game, Golf, and tearing each other apart emotionally like only good friends can.
Today, we left Bandon, and headed down the coast, stopping at any and all scenic viewpoints we could find.
The Oregon Coast is just so beautiful...I will miss it.
Our final stop on the way to Klamath Falls was The Redwoods. After a couple missed turns, we found ourselves on the correct dirt road, the prehistoric trees bathed in gravely dust making it appear that we were driving through a black and white photograph.
We found a suitable trail and hiked along a path through time, into a distant world of humbling giants.
It really is so amazing. I wish we could have spent more time here. To feel the greatest impact of that place, it is necessary to take it slow.
We arrived at the Running Y, just outside of Klamath Falls, a few hours later than originally planned, enjoyed a wonderful dinner at The Lodge and have the next week to explore all that the area has to offer.
Here. We. Go.
