Greetings from the road! We remain a solid four!
The night at the bison ranch was fantastic. We befriended the tatanka, thanks to Steven, whose impeccable instincts led him to belt out a taxi-hailing whistle, bringing the herd from a tired standstill 200 yards away, to a literal trot across the paddock to come say hello at the fence.
I’ve seen him do something similar with a film crew…
Regardless, he shall henceforth be known as “Buffalo Whistler”.
It was then decided to grab take-out pizza from The Pour House two miles down the dirt road, because we’re softies and too lazy to fire up the grill.
Today, D3, began with a tour of the Bridges of Madison County. Go ahead, roll your eyes, but that movie is great and the bridges are beautiful. Our paths kept crossing with a chatty couple from Mississippi who followed us into Winterset, IA, John Wayne’s hometown, I think just to exchange another dad-joke with David.
Cheeseburgers and root beers were had at Glenn’s Pub in Walnut, Iowa. Glenn is the owner, bartender, and cook…I’d go back for a good wallow if I could.
Supplies update from outside Omaha, NE: paper towels remain plentiful; water bottles have been distributed to car-door side pockets for obvious reasons; we have traded paper currency for no less than 30 lbs of bison jerky, which should last the winter; the box of files (the Ark of the Jordanent) remains buried in the way back, but always at the ready…
Our next destination is Alliance, NE, the home of Carhenge. Yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like and I cannot wait to see it in person.
Stay tuned…
