Departure day has arrived…!
After over three months of working in Rhode Island and three weeks of playing at the cabin (or “camp” as I have been corrected more than once) on Little Sebago Lake in Maine, we are off…!
The sober decision to drive across the United States from Gray, Maine, to Los Angeles, California, was a collective one. Pit-stops have been planned. A side trip to explOregon is in play. I am expecting homemade hotel martinis and lots of friendly bickering.
Roll Call: David Mahlman, myself, Steven Jordan, and Nancy Jordan…we are all currently in good health and spirits.
The four of us are packed into a Subaru Outback with supplies restricted for the necessity of travel. We have one spare tire, two new windshield wipers, a travel bag each, one Sirius Radio subscription, one full roll of paper towels, and one large box of files that contain bills, multiple lists of things, and tax returns from the past 10 years.
There are six 16.9 ounce bottles of Poland Spring water somewhere in the way back, completely inaccessible while the car is in motion. I was not involved in the game of Tetris that was packing the vehicle, but I am still happy to be here.
It is thought that these supplies could last us a few months, possibly stretched to a year if the weather should turn.
I am currently sitting back-seat-left. It’s raining. There’s a tornado warning for York County. I am absolutely thrilled to be here.
More to come…
