Greetings from The Capital!
We departed Los Angeles on Tuesday afternoon, October 10th and landed in London on Wednesday morning, October 11th. At least, that’s what everyone has told me...I have no idea what planet I’m on...
I do seem to recall Steven having a pretty good laugh at me struggling with my new headphones-wrap-around case, about which I bragged profusely so I supposed I deserved that...
And sadly, we did NOT get stamps in our passports because, just like in the grocery store, we had to check ourselves out of the airport and no one was kind enough to just leave the ink and stamp handy.
But overall, the 10+ hour flight was uneventful, we didn’t disappear into the Atlantic, and customs was a breeze, so no complaints here.
Greeted by a perfect cloudy day, we hopped in a black taxi to our hotel in Kensington and even though we were four hours early, Devi at the counter was kind enough to upgrade our rooms and check us in. Yeah!
After freshening up, we four intrepid Americans took to the pavement, rather the slate, and headed north east. We found ourselves doing a sort of pub crawl down Portobello Road through Notting Hill. The idea was really just to stay awake as long as possible.
We enjoyed pints at Churchill Arms and Duke of Ellington before dining at a great Indian restaurant that used to be part of a large Art Deco department store.
I have been told the rule here in London, as in many older cities, is to look up. And wow, the details in the architecture are incredible! The clusters of chimney stacks alone are just so unique.
Now if I can just remember to keep looking up, after looking right, then left for traffic, minding the gap and looking all around for unpredictable e-bike riders, I’ll have it down.
We have a couple more days to explore London, sans jet lag. Here. We. Go.
